Dr. Tashunda N. Joiner is a dedicated school counselor with nearly 30 years of experience in education, all within the Alief Independent School District. She currently serves at Cummings Elementary, where she provides comprehensive counseling services supporting students’ academic achievement, social-emotional development, and personal growth.
Career Highlights:
Began teaching career in 1997 at Youens Elementary
Supported at-risk students for seven years through the Campus Learning Center (CLC) program at Hastings Ninth Grade Center and Elsik Ninth Grade Center
Served as a counselor at the Alief Learning Center before joining Cummings Elementary in 2021
Roles and Responsibilities at Cummings Elementary:
Support students in academic goal setting and achievement
Promote social-emotional development and personal growth
Provide individual and group counseling sessions
Help students develop conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to foster student success
Assist with crisis intervention and connect families to community resources
Facilitate programs that build self-esteem, leadership, and healthy relationships

Recipient of the prestigious CREST award
Facilitator of the Alief District’s Girls’ Conference, founded by retiree counselor Faye Simmons
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University
Graduate studies at Prairie View A&M University
Doctorate in Psychology from Houston Bible College
Dr. Joiner is also an author and a proud mother of three young adult children and grandmother to one granddaughter. She is deeply committed to nurturing the potential of every student she serves.
